Study in UK prin Scoala LINK

Who we are

Link-language school is proud to present its partner for Study in the UK programme.

Albion International Study is a British owned and staffed company based in Bucharest and Brasov. We specialise in helping high school students apply to top UK universities (including Oxford and Cambridge) and we are one of the very few independent university advisory organisations operating anywhere in the world. We do not receive ‘finder’s fees’ from the universities recommend and therefore we can offer totally unbiased advice. We prepare students for entry into universities and onto courses that are best suited to their individual desires, talents and career aspirations.

10 Facts about undergraduate study in the UK

  • 1.  There are over 38,000 courses to choose from at over 100 universities
  • 2.  All universities are not the same: they are differ in entry standards, perceived quality of tuition, quality of academic research and graduate employment prospects
  • 3.  There are over 3000 Romanian students are currently studying in the UK
  • 4.  Students apply between September and January in their clasa XII i.e. before they receive their Diploma de Bacalaureat results
  • 5.  Centralised application system: only one personal statement and reference needed for your 4-5 university choices
  • 6.  A 8.0 in the Diploma de Bacalaureat is high enough for many courses at many top 40 universities
  • 7.  All Romanian students will receive a low-interest loan for their tuition fees from the British government for undergraduate degrees. This is a special loan because:
    • You play nothing until after you have finished your degree
    • You will only start replaying your loan if you are earning over £21,000 per year
    • Low repayments: just 9% of income over £21,000. E.g. if you earn £25,000 a year, you will pay £30 a month directly from your income tax.
  • 8.  Reduced tuition fees for Romanian students studying in Wales and Northern Ireland
  • 9.  There are no tuition fees for Romanian students studying in Scotland!
  • 10.  Optional paid internships available as a part of many courses

How we can help

We can work with students who currently in clasa X, XI and XII. There are two stages to our support package:

  • 1) Finding your future

The student will complete a detailed eight page questionnaire which will form the basis of a two hour private consultation meeting for a student and their parents in Brasov. The British consultant will offer advice and answer questions on:

  • The UK ‘Universities and Colleges Admissions Service’ (UCAS)
  • Different courses and universities that could be of interest to the student
  • Actions the student can take before they apply to strengthen their application
  • Entry requirements (including English language exams)
  • Tuition fees, living expenses and accommodation options

At the end of the meeting, the consultant will agree an individual Action Plan with the student which will help them research different options and decide on their four or five choices for their UCAS application. The consultant will monitor the Action Plan, checking that the student will be ready to submit a very strong application in the autumn.

  • 2) Total Support

This support package will take a student from starting their application to their first semester at university in the UK! Your consultant will carefully guide the student through each stage of the UCAS application process providing materials for writing their personal statements and reviewing an unlimited number of drafts until he believes it is good enough to submit. He will also help a student’s teacher write an effective reference which meets UCAS’s current ‘best practice’ guidelines. If necessary, he will contact universities on a student’s behalf to help resolve any application issues. Generally, we encourage students to submit their applications by mid November in the year prior to the start of their course in the UK. After they’ve applied, he’ll be on hand to offer advice on accepting offers, choosing accommodation, planning Open Day visits and applying for financial support. After they have received their Diploma de Bacalaureat results and confirmed their university place, students will get a taste of the UK with a celebratory meal with other successful applicants. Finally, we can even offer help with making flight and UK rail and coach travel arrangements when the student moves to the UK to take up their place.

  • 3) Total Support (Oxford and Cambridge)

Applications to either of these famous universities is a more complex and demanding process than it is for the other 114 institutions in the UK. They are looking for ‘the brightest and best’ students in the world and you would need to be ranked in the top five pupils in your high school stand a realistic chance of being admitted. Last year we worked with six applicants for Oxford and Cambridge, including one from Brasov: five were invited for interviews and two were offered places.  Your Personal Statement will be rigorously reviewed by Stuart Elford, an Albion Consultant and Cambridge graduate before the earlier October 15th application deadline. If you are invited to attend an interview, one of us will visit Brasov to deliver six hours of preparation training spread over two days.
